Governor Scott Walker and Lithuania

Governor Scott Walker and Lithuania

Governor Scott Walker of Wisconsin recently attended the opening of Lithuania’s first honorary consulate in his state, clearly pleased with the official presence of yet another country in his state. The goal is for each side to develop closer economic and cultural ties between Lithuania and Wisconsin.

Leslie Liautaud is the new appointee. An executive with the restaurant chain Jimmy John’s, she’s known as a successful businesswoman and philanthropist. Not long ago I blogged about Governor Scott Walker trying to convince the President of Mexico to establish a consulate in Wisconsin. His state is clearly pro-active in seeking trade and investment from abroad.

Lithuania is also one of the countries that take the role of its honorary consuls in the U.S. seriously. At the annual convention of the group, they were told that they are “ambassadors” for their country. The goodwill and recognition that these honorary consuls of Lithuania create is immeasurable.
