Impress your local consul.

Impress your local consul.

When you want to contact your local consul (or his office, the consulate), nothing impresses him more than when you show an understanding of his position. You begin by using the correct title, not in a condescending manner but as part of your own courteous and professional behavior.

For instance, you’d be addressing someone as “Consul Jones” as opposed to using first names. Don’t worry if you don’t know if he’s a consul general or vice consul; “consul” is always appropriate to show respect. If you make sure your pronunciation is correct – c-o-nsul, and not  “counsel” or “council” – you’ll be sure to impress even more.

Remember, you only have one chance to make a good first impression.
